July 9: Mysore-based firm NGSportiWe Technologies Private Limited (SportiWe) has raised INR 40 Lacs for its second pre-series seed fund through Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISF) via SJCE-STEP, Mysore.
The company was previously recognized by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and was reviewed by Experts Advisory Committee (EAC) to be incubated at SJCE-STEP.
The Startup India initiative of the Government of India envisages building a robust startup ecosystem in the country for nurturing innovation and providing opportunities to budding entrepreneurs.
DPIIT has created Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) with an outlay of INR 945 Crore to provide financial assistance to startups for Proof of Concept, prototype development, product trials, market-entry, and commercialization. It will support an estimated 3,600 entrepreneurs through 300 incubators in the next four years.
The Seed Fund is disbursed through SJCE-STEP to NGSportiwe Technologies Private Limited (SportiWe).
Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering – Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (SJCE-STEP) was established in 1985 at JSS Technical Campus, Mysuru, with the support of the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and the blessings of His Holiness JSS Mahaswamiji, is Focusing on technology domains to support and develop cutting edge product or service in STEP incubator. Over three decades of its existence, STEP has been at the forefront of grooming Entrepreneurs and has also promoted more than 150 entrepreneurs over the years. SJCE-STEP has CATALYSING and PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURSHIP across the information technology and communication domains.
SportiWe is a sporting ecosystem launched recently, enabling the world to connect with new people through sports while they browse sporting venues nearby and also stay connected to their favourite sport.
At present, SportiWe has already managed to partner with over 1500 sporting venues across the country with over 10K users and aims to partner with at least 15K Sporting Venues and onboard at least 1 Million users in the next 18 months.
Talking about the company and the financial support received by Startup India & SJCE-STEP, Varun Gururaja, founder of SportiWe, said, “ On what SportiWe began as just a college project for me back in 2010 is taking its shape with the support of SJCE-STEP in ways of not only assisting us financially but also mentoring us to scale. SportiWe is just not a traditional sporting application; We are pioneering to bring the sporting enthusiasts under one platform so that they never give up on their sporting habits. Our mission at SportiWe is to get all our users back in the game physically. We intend to be the first unicorn from the city of Mysore in the coming years. The application is available to download for free in both Google Play and Apple Store.”
The company will utilize the funds raised through this scheme on product enhancement, sales, and marketing in order to keep the audience engaged.
SportiWe intends to generate at least 500 employment opportunities in the next couple of years in different verticals like technology, Sales & Marketing, Customer Service, Research & Development, Legal & compliance and many more.
