Indian businesses have become increasingly effective at generating leads. Digital advertising, WhatsApp and online discovery have made it easier than ever for small and mid-sized companies to attract potential customers. Yet for many businesses, the problem begins after the lead arrives.
The first response often takes hours. Follow-ups depend on busy sales teams. Conversations slip through the cracks. By the time someone reaches out, the customer has frequently moved on to a competitor that replied first.
For years, companies have attempted to solve this problem with customer relationship management software. But traditional CRM systems were designed primarily as systems of record. They store customer information, track interactions and organise pipelines. What they do not do is actively move a sale forward.
That distinction is becoming increasingly important in a market where purchasing decisions happen at all hours, particularly on WhatsApp.
Advances in artificial intelligence are now pushing the sales technology category beyond record-keeping and into execution. Rather than simply documenting what happened, newer systems are beginning to respond, qualify, follow up and take action on behalf of businesses while maintaining human oversight where required.
It is against this backdrop that Dehradun-based The Next Door AI Pvt Ltd has launched Supersei, an AI growth engine designed around what its founders describe as a “system of action” rather than a system of record.
Built by Kundan Kumar and Mrinal Anand, Supersei grew out of a frustration both founders encountered during years of working with enterprise software.
“We spent years inside large companies using CRM after CRM, and every one did the same thing. It remembered the customer but never won them,” said Kundan Kumar, Co-Founder. “A CRM was built to store a lead and wait for a human to act, and in a market where people buy at 11 pm on WhatsApp, waiting is how you lose. We built Supersei so the reply, the follow-up and the booking happen on their own, and a person steps in only where a person truly matters.”
The platform captures leads from advertising campaigns, websites, WhatsApp and inbound calls into a single workflow. At the centre of the system is Sei, the platform’s AI sales representative, which responds to enquiries within seconds, qualifies prospects, follows up automatically, books meetings and shares payment links. The name is a play on Super and Sensei, the Japanese word for a guide.
The company says the platform is built around the channels where Indian businesses already operate, particularly WhatsApp, while also connecting with web chat, email and calls. Integrations include Meta, Google Ads, Gmail, Google Calendar and Meet, along with payment platforms such as Razorpay and Stripe.
Beyond automation, the founders argue that businesses increasingly need visibility into which marketing activity actually generates revenue.
“In India, most sales happen on WhatsApp, and most leads are paid for with ad money,” said Mrinal Anand, Co-Founder. “When a business takes six hours to reply, that money is already gone. We have seen a team cut first response from hours to under a minute and take conversion from 5 percent to 20 percent without adding a single person. That is the difference between a tool that records your sales and one that drives them.”
According to the company, one early deployment with a fast-growing AI job-tech business operating 20 agents and handling approximately 5,000 leads per month produced notable changes over a single quarter. First response time fell from six hours to under one minute. Lead conversion increased from 5 percent to 20 percent. Ninety percent of follow-ups were automated, while conversations handled per agent per day increased from 30 to 100. The company also reported an improvement in return on ad spend from 3x to 7.5x and a reduction in cost per lead from ₹50 to ₹17.
The founders believe such outcomes reflect a broader shift occurring across the sales technology market. As AI systems become capable of handling real conversations and routine sales actions, businesses may increasingly expect software not only to track opportunities but also to help close them.
Supersei is available to teams of varying sizes through a per-seat pricing model. More information is available at supersei.ai.
